Selection Policy:
Want to know what goes into selecting resources for our library? Here is Howard County's Selection Policy.
Here is an easier checklist that I created to help me to select resources for our library. In addition to following County policy, I want to make sure that I select materials that: support class curricula, are current and accurate, and present a variety of opinions while challenging the reader to formulate their own conclusions.
**Teachers-- Here is a Curriculum Chart that I made of the content areas in our building. It helps me to purchase the resources that will best fit into your area of teaching. Let me know if you have any titles in mind for me to look into purchasing!

Student Rights:
Did you know you had certain rights in the library?
Here are some rights you have in our library:
~ Access and use information, in a variety of formats, free of charge
~ Access information that represents a variety of viewpoints
~ Select and check out resources that you want to read, for
educational use or personal enjoyment
Here are some things that I will do to make sure your rights remain
true:
~ Defend resources against censorship
~ Select resources that are diverse in subject matter and viewpoints
~ Create an environment that supports creativity, critical thought,
respect, as well as celebrates the differences that make us unique
~ Promote privacy as well as the ethical use of information

The American Library Association also has some documents that support your rights in the library:
ALA's Bill of Rights
ALA's Freedom to Read Statement
Student Privacy
You have the right to privacy and confidentiality when it comes to
the resources you use in the school library. This right is frequently
challenged, so make sure that you also take precautions of your own to
protect your privacy! Things such as passwords and usernames should
be for your use only.
